Installed Adobe Acrobat Reader DC on a new Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Remote Desktop Services (RDS) session and it fails to open with ‘An internal error occurred.’ message.

Have come across this before and it was a quick registry fix, all we had to do was add in the below –

  1. Open up Regedit
  2. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\FeatureLockDown
  3. Create a new REG_DWORD (32-bit) value called bProtectedMode
  4. Ensure the value is 0 (should be by default)

And Adobe now opens!
